Join renowned wildlife and nature photographer Greg Harvey for our Wildlife Photography Workshop. Spend a fun and enlightening weekend with Greg while he instructs on the various tools and techniques needed to create stunning wildlife photos.


During this comprehensive weekend, Greg will spend time in the classroom educating you about wildlife photography techniques. Greg often brings some domesticated animals to photograph  to offer practical excersises in a controlled environment.


Once you have received a firm grounding in the necessary techniques, you’ll head out into the field for a wildlife photography field trip to photograph various species of local wildlife. Greg will be with you every step of the way to help you come away with the best possible images. You will learn the important equipment that is needed for certain wildlife photos, the best camera techniques to capture exciting images and lots of hands on practice with some fascinating creatures. Students leave this class with a wealth of knowledge and a few wildlife photographs that they are proud to show off!


The location of the photography session is generally within a short drive of the classroom. Please let us know if you are not driving yourself so we can arrange transportation for you.

Equipment Required


To get the most out of this wildlife photography class, you DO NOT require the latest and greatest digital SLR camera with a monster telephoto lens. However, there are a few pieces of equipment that you will require to help maximize your experience. We DO NOT recommend that you purchase any specialty lenses prior to taking this class. High end photography equipment can be rented for a very reasonable cost at Edmonton camera store Vistek.


• A DSLR or Mirror-less camera with interchangeable lenses

• A telephoto lens in the range of 70-200mm or 70-300mm.

• Memory card(s) that can hold 200-300 images.

• (optional) A computer to process the images made during the workshop. The class isn't about editing so don't worry if you cannot bring your computer.

• (optional) A tripod or monopod capable of supporting your camera and telephoto lens



Prerequisites for our Wildlife Photography June 29th & 30th class


  • Students should be familiar with their camera settings and how to use it in Aperture Priority and/or Manual mode
  • Recommended (but not mandatory) classes include Digital Camera Fundamentals and Photographic Composition or equivalent


Your Instructor for Wildlife Photography June 29th & 30th


Your instructor will be Greg Harvey.  Greg enjoys nature, photography and travel. He combines these passions to create wildlife images from around the world.  Armed with a large format printer and a workshop, Greg prints and frames his own work. He leads photography groups to Southern France, Kenya and Alaska.  Greg says "I'm either taking pictures, editing pictures, treating, stretching and framing canvases".
