Photography Contest
"Literature"
Photography Contest
We have come up with an interesting and potentially more challenging theme for this contest. The theme is "Literature". The goal is not to recreate a classic scene from literature, but rather to capture the essence of a book, story, or poem. Or perhaps, just a famous passage from literature. For instance, you might gain inspiration from Robert Frost's poem "The Road Less Travelled".
Two Roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
I would be easy to imagine a beautiful landscape photograph of a path in the woods that diverges and offers the viewer (or hiker) a choice of which path to take. Or your approach might go deeper and depict a portrait of a person looking like they are contemplating a difficult decision. You might take your inspiration from Shakespeare. The passage "If Music Be The Food Of Love, Play On" from the play Twelfth Night could be illustrated with a food photo, a musically related image or perhaps a picture of a loving couple sharing a meal together. What sort of image could you imagine using a quote from George Orwell's Animal Farm? "All animals are created equal, but some animals are more equal than others" could match with a beautiful pet portrait. The possibilities are endless!
The images submitted will be curated into 6 "finalists". An overall winner will be selected from the final six and honorable mentions will be given to those images deemed to deserving of additional recognition. The winning photographer will receive a $250.00 gift certificate towards any class the Burwell School offers. All finalists will receive a snazzy certificate and have their photos featured in our newsletter, on Facebook, Instagram and our blog. These images will also be printed, framed and displayed at the Providence Renewal Center.
Photos will be judged on technical quality, impact, composition, and creativity. The finalists will be notified by email and announced in the 1st newsletter following the entry deadline.
