  • Create a curves adjustment layer
  • Use the black, white and grey eye droppers to adjust the colour balance  (if you require hints on where you might find a black, white and neutral grey spot to click, you can open this page, but only do it if you really need to)
  • Save the result as a .PSD file
  • Email the file as a high-quality JPEG file sized to 1000 pixels on the long side at 96 ppi (Pixels-per-inch)

Assignment 2

Download the following files to a folder on your computer:

Part 1

  • Open File_1 and File_2 in Photoshop
  • Use the techniques discussed in our last class to extract the running little girl from File_2
  • Paste the little girl into File_1
  • Scale the little girl appropriately (Free transform tool from the Edit menu) and place her (using the move tool) so that it looks like she is running from the bear
  • Add a white filled layer mask to the layer the little girl is on (from the menu bar, Layer->Layer Mask->Reveal All)
  • Blend the little girl so that she looks like she wasn’t pasted into the photograph (paint an outline around the little girl on the layer mask in a very soft, small brush to blend the transition between the little girl and the background of the bear photo)
  • Save the result as a .PSD file
  • Email the file as a high-quality JPEG file sized to 1000 pixels on the long side at 96 ppi (Pixels-per-inch)

Part 2

  • Add the five basic adjustment layers to the image file
  • Adjust the exposure, mid-tone contrast, colour balance, selective colours and hue/saturation as necessary to create a please image
  • Save the result as a new .PSD file
  • Email the file as a high-quality JPEG file sized to 1000 pixels on the long side at 96 ppi (Pixels-per-inch)

Part 3

  • Create a new adjustment layer to convert the image to Black & White
  • Adjust the colour to black and white mapping to create a pleasing Black & White image
  • Paint on the layer mask on the Black & White adjustment layer to reveal the colour on just the little girl
    • (Hint) Black hides, white reveals
  • Save the result as a new .PSD file
  • Email the file as a high-quality JPEG file sized to 1000 pixels on the long side at 96 ppi (Pixels-per-inch)
